Disease Prevention & Health Promotion Directorate
On behalf of the entire team of our directorate, I’m delighted to welcome you to the diseases prevention & Health promotion directorate. Under the directorate, seven programs are being handled; namely:
- Malaria & other vector borne diseases prevention and control program
- Tuberculosis, Leprosy and other lung disease prevention and control program
- Non communicable diseases prevention and control program
- Neglected tropical diseases prevention & Control program
- Health centre reform program
- Health extension & Primary health care program
- Hygiene & environmental health /WASH program
Our directorate strives to prevent morbidity, mortality, and disability through provision of quality preventive, curative and promotive health services aligned with the national HSTP-II. Our directorate has registered significant achievements on both diseases prevention as well as health promotion wings in saving lives & connecting generation with the future possibilities, contributing its vital role for realization of the regional health bureau’s vision.

Currently, our directorate’s focus areas include:
Under diseases prevention and control wing:
- Proactive diseases prevention & control of outbreaks as per the national protocols and keep the regional morbidity and mortality trend under the WHO-fixed ranges.
- Achieving the 2030 elimination/eradication-targeted major communicable diseases mainly neglected tropical diseases.
Under health promotion wing:
- Ensuring the regional health extension program optimization road map for health system strengthening to assure universal health service coverage.
- Quality health care delivery through reforming the health care system at primary health care units(health posts, health centres and primary hospitals)
